As February approaches the air was crisp as the first signs of spring began to peek through the winter frost. For most people, Valentine's Day was a time for romance, bouquets of flowers, and heart-shaped candies, but for me, it was all about embracing my newfound freedom. This year, my motto was clear: "Single as Fuck."
After my last breakup with Chet, a whirlwind romance that had left me more drained than delighted, I had decided to reclaim Valentine’s Day in my own way. Instead of sulking or wishing for a date that would most likely end in disappointment, I flipped the script and dove headfirst into my latest project: anti-Valentine’s Day cookies.
I spent a few hours in the kitchen, rolling out dough and cutting it into shapes. I added humorous sayings like "Love Stinks" and "Go Away".
As the sun dipped below the horizon, my friends began to arrive, each with their own stories of bad dates and box-of-chocolates disappointments. We gathered in my living room, draped with playful decorations that screamed rebellion against the conventional Valentine's Day.
“Can’t wait to see if these break more hearts than Chet did!” Kelly declared, holding up a cookie adorned with an exaggerated frown. We all erupted in infectious laughter, every bite of cookie making us feel more empowered in our singleness.
As we filled the room with fun and stories late into the night, I realized how much I cherished this independence. With each cookie consumed, we toasted to our strength and determination to enjoy life on our own terms. I may have been single, but I was far from alone.
The evening wrapped up with everyone promising to celebrate their own singlehood every year from now on. After all, who needed a romantic partner when you had great friends, a sense of humor, and a delicious platter of anti-Valentine's cookies? It was the perfect way to celebrate love—love for ourselves and the bond we shared.
And at the end of the night, I knew I had finally embraced my "Single as Fuck" motto, and I was ready to stand tall in it.
